The Black & White Gala – with a Touch of Red
Children’s Hope India presents the Black and White Ball to mark a grand anniversary – its 20th year of service to children. Two decades ago this New York-based non-profit started as a small group of women professionals hoping to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children.
Now in 2012, CHI has over 20 projects across India which have served 200,000 children, looking after their health, education and vocational training. CHI projects are in Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Bangalore, Bhuj, Pune, Jabalpur and several villages in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
To mark this milestone and to raise funds for its health and education programs, Children’s Hope India presents the Grand Gala of Galas – the Black and White Ball on October 21, 2012 at Pier Sixty in Manhattan. In this beautiful, formal event, guests will enter a dramatic black and white world with music and dance from the glorious Indian film industry which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The dress code is formal or Indian, in black, white or a touch of red.
Over 500 guests from the tri-state area are expected to attend the event. Noted TV personality Tinku Jain will be hosting the evening and the chief guests are Consul General Prabhu Dayal and Mrs. Dayal.
Children’s Hope India – Celebrating 20 years of service to children
At the Black and White Gala CHI recognize top leaders of the corporate and business world for their leadership, philanthropy and support of social causes with the Lotus Award.
This year two notable philanthropists who have each made a mark in the lives of others are being recognized: Padma Shri Dr. Swati Piramal, the Vice Chairperson of Piramal Life Sciences Limited and Director of Piramal Healthcare Limited. She has been elected as a member of the prestigious Harvard Board of Overseers, and is a member of the Hall of Fame for the Most Powerful Women in India.
Dr. Chitranjan Ranawat, who received the Padma Bhushan from the Indian Government, is the Director of the Orthopedic Surgery and Centre for Total Joint Replacement in New York. The New York-based orthopedic surgeon is a pioneer in this field, and over a career spanning 45 years he has done over 14,000 hip and knee replacements.
Dr. P. Jayaraman, the noted scholar and past director of Bharati Vidya Bhavan, will receive the Making a Difference Award. Gul and Rattan Samtani will be recognized for their pioneering support of Children’s Hope for two decades.
Children’s Hope will also recognize Meera and Vikram Gandhi and The Giving Back Foundation for their generous grant supporting CHI Scholarships in India and the US.
The Black and White Gala includes cocktails, dinner, a silent auction and a wonderful dance performance by Aatma Performing Arts showcasing the best of Bollywood in this 100th year of Hindi cinema, celebrating each decade of Hindi cinema.
