From Me to You:
Wisdom from the Chocolate Gurus
Forget the Vedas, forget the Bible, now we are getting infinite wisdom from chocolate wrappers! Yes, dark chocolate is not only supposed to be good for you but also gives you life lessons as you take a bite.
“It is easier to forgive and love than to harbor hate” says one echoing the Bhagavad Gita. Another, like a wise old yoga teacher, proclaims: “Be still, breathe, know – you are fine.” Yet another piece of advice seems to come from a savvy, been-there-done-that-man-about-town, “Life is too short to drink cheap wine.”
When did this happen?
[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hen did we start consulting our chocolates for knowledge about life and living? “Don’t look back- you’ve already been there,” is something positive thinking guru Wayne Dwyer might say but no, it’s on a Dove Promise chocolate wrapper and is attributed to Lana Lemoore from California. Yet another sounds terribly Oprah like – “Believe in love at first sight – just in case!” It comes from Rebecca Henderson in Kentucky.
“Believe the best in others” seems like advice your mother might have given you. “Believe the best in yourself,” seems pure Oprah.
[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ther chocolate-spun wisdom seems to have been influenced by the mobile phone industry and yet makes perfect sense: “Call Your Dad.” Or “Conference Call Your Friends.” Other bits of wisdom? “Be the first to hit the dance floor.”
Then there are savvy bits of advice a marketing guru might give you: “Be Your Own Publicist”, “Break the Mold,” and “Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” Then again – it could be Oprah-isms!
And there are even some homilies that Barack Obama might utter: “Change is a process, not an event.” Or he might say, “Compromise is a sign of strength not weakness.” Only somebody else has already said it – on a chocolate wrapper.
And perhaps the best advice from the chocolate philosophers is this gem: “Be who you are – originals are much more valuable!”
So every night as I open up my daily indulgence – I get wisdom, wit and a pep talk from my very literate chocolate wrappers.

Dove always had them – and I even said a quick prayer before I opened a wrapper : ). Funny how they play with our heads – Once I got one that said – Only love today – I waited all day for something special to come my way – but we know how these things go – LOL
Haven’t seen any in India…or maybe I don’t wait long enough to read before gobbling the bar down 🙂 Yes, I know I noticed them on Dove…it’s fun, something like fortune cookies right!! Maybe it’s the wisdom I need at that point of time, and God chose a chocolate to send me an important message! 🙂
I don’t have any sayings, but these sayings are as good excuse as any to eat chocolate! 🙂
