You’re in luck – the much loved and anticipated New York Indian Film Festival is happening right now! This is an annual feature as welcome as Spring and outdoor dining in New York! So get yourself to Angelika Theater to see some really thought-provoking cinema curated by Aseem Chhabra, director of NYIFF, and his team.
For those used to streaming movies, this is a real joy, being able to seeon the big screen, not only major films but also little known films of upcoming directors and seeing the best of documentaries. Many of the films are so much about real life – about aging parents, changed relationships and finding your own identity in the world. So many topics about sexuality and gender which were taboo earlier are now there in the open, to be seen and discussed. Don’t forget the documentaries – they are the real gems which tell us so many hidden facts about our real world and are often stranger than fiction.
Aseem Chhabra, the director of the festival, has worked on getting the most happening and poignant films on the NYIFF screen so catch them while you can and enjoy some power performances. These are films which are going to make you think. The festival offers the opportunity of meeting major stars like Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee besides so many wonderful directors, writers and producers. Besides Q an A’s after every performance, there are also industry panels and discussions where you can interact with the powers that be and get real insights.
