Celebrating Life with Meera Gandhi
Sometimes ten years can pass in the blink of an eye! Hard to believe, but it was a decade ago that social entrepreneur Meera Gandhi launched The Giving Back Foundation to uplift and empower girls. It has been doing exactly that through several initiatives among them the all-girls St Michael’s School in New Delhi, providing room, board and education free for all students. The Foundation also provides scholarships to students through the Eleanor Roosevelt Leadership Center and the Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute at Harvard. The Giving Back Foundation supports the arts through charities like the Elton John Aids Foundation, Marc Anthony’s Maestro Cares Foundation and the Woodstock Film Festival.
To honor Meera Gandhi, Brooklyn’s Resident Magazine did a cover story on her work, and the publisher Christopher Pape noted, “We were very happy to have Meera on our April cover, Not only is she an outstanding New Yorker, but her charitable work has helped uplift many people’s lives.”Indeed, what is life if not small celebrations of joy and friendship, of new things learned and enriching relationships? Meera, the founder of Giving Back, has become adept at this, of helping people through spiritual and positive motivation, including through the Meera Gandhi Show.
To Know Meera Gandhi is to know an endless number of varied, innovative people, and many of them had turned up at the two events to celebrate the cover that were hosted by Resident magazine at Passatempo in Brooklyn and at the Anita Dongre Showroom in Manhattan.
Lots of new and old friends and some wonderful music by Home State featuring vocalist Alex Friedlander, drummer David Berliner, and guitarist Matt Gralla who played their new summer anthem, “Find My Own Way.”
The Giving Back Foundation is celebrating its 10-year mark with events in Delhi, New York and London throughout 2019 so watch this space!
