Children’s Hope India: Calling All Royals
If you have a tiara, now’s your chance to wear it! Bring out your princely robes because this is your chance to play king or queen at a right royal celebration. The event is the Royal India Gala organized by Children’s Hope India and it is a fun-raising fund raising event where supporters are treated like royalty.
On October 9, Pier Sixty in Chelsea is being transformed into a royal palace and there will be a command performance of music and dance. Bid on luxury items; savor a fabulous feast fit for a king. Guests are asked to come dressed in their royal best and enjoy the maharaja treatment
An Evening of Music, Dance and Celebration
Over 500 guests are expected at the Royal India Gala. The emcee for the evening is noted television personality Tinku Jain. Children’s Hope India recognizes top leaders for their leadership, and support of social causes with the Lotus Award. This year’s honorees are Dr. Melvin and Daryl Rand, and Dr. Samin K. Sharma.
Dr. Melvin Rand is a distinguished forensic and clinical psychologist who has practiced in the State of New Jersey since 1968.Daryl Rand is the founder and president of HarrisonRand Advertising and incorporates three decades of active volunteerism on boards of several non-profits. She has also led several delegations of business women leaders to India.
Dr. Samin K. Sharma is Director of Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Mount Sinai Hospital. He is Co-Director of the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute and a Professor of Medicine.
The Making a Difference Award is being presented to Urmi Basu, Founder of New Light Foundation for her ground-breaking work with the children of sex workers in Kolkata.
Command Performances
The Royal India Gala will highlight a performance by Falu, the noted singer who has performed everywhere – from Lincoln Center with AR Rahman at the Time 100 Gala to the White House for President Obama’s first State Dinner for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Falu is accompanied by her fantastic band which blends musical influences from Indian classical to contemporary pop and alternative rock. They are Gaurav Shah (vocals / harmonium), Mark Tewarson (guitars), Borahm Lee (keys), Justin Wallace (bass), and Ramsey Jones (drums).
Amit Shah of AATMA Performing Arts and his dancers are showcasing a dazzling view of Royal India. Amit has worked on Bollywood film sets with actors Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Genelia D’Souza, and with Shahrukh Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Productions. His choreography was featured on stage with Priyanka Chopra and in music videos and films including Cappadonna and G-Deep’s music video, “Nach Leh”
The proceeds from the Royal India Gala go towards health and education in India.
