When the underworld don Chota Rajan threw a bash, Mumbai cops were actually seen dancing and cavorting at the party along with the don’s henchmen to a song from a popular Bollywood movie about the underworld, no less! Reel life? No this is real life in Mumbai as Outlook.com reported:
In a major embarrassment to the Mumbai police, an IPS officer and four other personnel faced suspension today after they were allegedly seen dancing at a Christmas-eve party thrown by underworld don Chota Rajan.
Mumbai Police Commissioner D Sivanandan recommended the suspension of DCP V N Salve, an IPS officer, and ACP Prakash Wani, and three other police personnel.
The Maharashtra government had yesterday ordered an inquiry into allegations that besides Salve and Wani, senior police inspector Tulsidas Khakkad, a police inspector of anti-extortion cell and a constable from Chembur police station, had attended the party.

Makes you really wonder, does cinema imitate life or is life inspired by the movies? Cops – like anybody and everybody else in Mumbai – grow up seeing tons of Bollywood fare with underworld themes, songs and characters woven into them, so is it any surprise that they get influenced?
Do they get desensitized to the seriousness of the situation when charmers like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan play the bad guys? Bollywood portrays gang life as such great fun, with state-of-the-art hideouts with five star hotel fittings, the Black Label flowing, and the sexy cabaret dancers singing sizzling numbers – can a poor cop be blamed for thinking he’s in for some real fun at a real underworld party?
Ironically, the Mumbai real life party was celebrating the release of some serious bad guys after 13 years of imprisonment and so the authorities are not amused by the cops shaking a leg with the mafia members in joy.
As for the about to be suspended police officers, one can’t think of what defense they can possibly have – except “Sir, we were brainwashed by Bollywood!” or “We thought if it was OK for Shah Rukh to do it, it would be OK for us too.” Or perhaps, “We thought we were shooting for the sequel of ‘Don’.”
