Single Desi asks: Could it Be Karma or Destiny?
Yeah it’s been a ride….I had to go to that place to get to this one
Now some of you might still be in that place
If you are trying to get out, just follow me
I’ll get you there
-Eminem
We’ve all been through it….we never thought we would wind up here, but somehow, here we are. The craziness and unpredictability of life has brought us to this point. Is this where we want to be? All roads lead back to our creator, so why bother…what are we trying to learn and who is trying to teach it to us? And most importantly, who cares and what’s the point of everything.
I am sure that all desi singles ask themselves these questions at least once in their lifetime (if not several times). You just stop and reflect on it all. But the truth is no one knows anything. As desis searching for enlightenment, we are all here trying to learn the same things through different experiences and gain wisdom through the years to hopefully someday teach it to our kids.
Is that the point?
Most of us aren’t even getting married or procreating, at least not like it use to be.
Why did I marry this person, when God knew that our marriage wouldn’t last more than two years?
Why did I hook up with this guy and get dumped afterward when God knew it would happen, what was the point?
Why did my best friend in the whole world steal my boyfriend, why did God introduce her to me and why did we click so well?
Why did my loser ex-husband take my children and money, when all I did was give him my love and support?
Why did I study so hard for a career that landed me unemployed and/or unhappy?
Why am I switching jobs constantly, will I ever find steady employment?
Why did I get laid off when they aren’t even hiring people in my profession?
Why do nice people finish last? Aren’t we suppose to be courteous and respectful to get somewhere in this life?
Life is a mystery and we try to make sense of it all through talking to our peers, parents, life partners and children. The explanations don’t make sense to us so we put it on Karma. Are we really connected through some cosmic force that we aren’t aware of?
I think we are.
Life – Karma – Dharma – Cosmic Forces – The Single Desi thinks aloud…
I know life isn’t fair or just and we just have to walk according to our plan as God meant it for us. As desis we need to carry on our duty without getting bogged down with personal attachments. The perfect way to live is to keep your mind in balanced harmony and renunciate worldly attachments. Can you do that? I don’t know if I can do that. Maybe I will be when I get older, however right now I am looking for satisfaction through external forces. Aren’t we all? Isn’t that age appropriate?
Our journey here are on earth is to learn and be at peace with ourselves. The mere fact that we are looking outside of ourselves for happiness disturbs our mind. Someone with personal desires will not experience true peace. But when all desires merge, peace is easily realized. The best way to completely find your purpose is to offer your services to help the less fortunate people of this world. This isn’t your life. It is God’s life. You are a soul meeting other souls and you are making use of your advantages and disadvantages here on earth. Mentally control your senses and let go of all attachments and engage in selfless service. Always remember, that everything in this creation seems to exist to be used by others. Your life is a sacrifice. You aren’t living for yourself, but for others. This is all under the direct guidance of nature’s law.
Remember, you have been brought into this world, not for your own job. You didn’t come planned. You were just pushed along stage by stage. You didn’t come according to your own plan and you aren’t going to leave according to your own plan.
You have been brought here and you will be kept here as long as that “One” up there needs you. The minute He or She thinks your job is over; all the Divine One has to do is just turn off the switch. No air will enter your lungs. Poof – it’s all over! Feel the unseen hand directing you every minute, taking you along from one thing to another. Know that it’s always unplanned by you and for the good of everybody. That’s svadharma. You were born with a special skill that keeps the world working at its best.
To all my dreamers out there – I’m with you
All my underdogs, ha – I feel you
Lift your head high and stay strong
Keep pushin’ on

Hey Sushma and Jayesh- Thanks for your feedback.
We all have our own personal belief system that helps us make sense of the world around us. Discovering our spiritual connections help us understand ourselves and the world around us. It is important to find peace within ourselves.

I don’t believe God created all these over 6 billion people and all other life forms; if there is God I am sure he/she has better things to do than just keep creating different life forms. We are all sum of subatomic particles which we call body. And it is attached to “chitta” or subconscious mind, which is constantly in touch with this body ( mass of subatomic particles ).
We react to all the things that are pleasant or unpleasant and keep on building Karmas, which are nothing but deep impressions on our subconscious mind, and one of those deep impressions comes to surface at the time of death, and vibrations of which attach to the new body which we call birth……..in sense we take our own birth.
So let us stop glorifying God for all the good that happens and stop blaming God/Satan for all the bad that happens. We are 100% responsible for all the good or bad that happens to us.
If something bad happens to us, it is because of our own past life’s actions which we do not know (remember).
If something good happens it is also because of past life’s actions.
Monica, as a very young girl growing up in a sleepy town in Himalayas I learned from dad:
Let your SELF-DETERMINATION and WILL POWER be so strong and bold that even GOD from heaven will come down and ask you WHAT SHALL I WRITE IN YOUR DESTINY?
I have all along believed in it and believe that my own determination to achieve what I want is not in my stars but in my own will power
Well said, Monica! Life is complex enough without having to second-guess the One Up There!!
Thanks Neeru and Preetu-
I am so glad you guys enjoyed this post….life is difficult to understand and I don’t think we will fully get the answers we are looking for, so we have to just make the best of our cards and maintain a positive outlook in life…

Monica…Yes – Everything in one’s life happens for a reason which is one’s own Karma; nobody can escape that. There is always something positive to learn from every single experience; I am sure you do too. There are always smiles ahead of tears; one that lives life fully, leaves the world with smiles only. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your beautifully penned post which was an outpouring from your soul – sincere, direct, which emitted a bright light. Loved it friend, keep smiling ! 🙂
Monica – Really enjoyed reading this post. I agree that detachment is really difficult if not impossible to practice/achieve but it comes naturally to those who attach themselves to a higher purpose. For those of us who question the purpose of our lives, our scriptures say it is only to attain higher consciousness or attain salvation. Until such time, we will go through endless cycles of life and death…always trying to find that purpose and the answers.
