Well, the big Obama trip is over but it’s something Indians will talk about for a long, long time. He seems to have won Indian hearts by correctly enunciating ‘Namaste’, ‘Sal Mubarak’ and ‘Jai Hind’.
The fact that Obama had Indian friends in college, and actually knows how to cook daal and kheema can’t hurt either. But what has endeared him to every Indian is his endorsement of the country’s permanent membership into that most exclusive club – the United Nations Security Council.
It’s almost as if Obama has been adopted into the family, and is part of the Indian tribe.
Take a look at how anonymous Indians are paying him the supreme compliment of being one of their own!
First there was media, then there was new media, and now there is new, new media as regular Joes (Jais?) are discovering the power of turning publisher with the click of a button. Now that grand uncles and grandpas have discovered the power of email, they are turning publisher, sending out mass emails to their friends, full of sappy philosophical sayings, desi jokes and – Obama material.
I received the following pictures from several different people in India, Hong Kong and heaven knows where else. Who took these, where did they come from? No one knows as someone somewhere hits ‘forward’ and the mass emails go cascading around the world of the Indian Diaspora. Uncle in Dubai to brother-in-law in Hong Kong to second cousin in India to best friend in London to sister in New York…
Imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery and the creators of these images seem to be doing that in a lopsided way. When the prez finishes putting America in order, he can be sure he’ll always have a job waiting for him in India!
(Since these pictures came in a viral email blast, I don’t know how to credit them except to inCom which I couldn’t locate on the Internet.)
