The Single Desi’s Spin on The Academy Awards
“The Average Hollywood Film Star’s ambition is to be admired by an American, courted by an Italian, married to an Englishman and have a French boyfriend”- Katharine Hepburn
On Sunday, February 26th 2012, the night was all about the 84th Annual Academy Awards. The fashion, the best dressed, the worst dressed, the wardrobe malfunctions, the hits, the misses…. I love the movies!
Old Hollywood, New Hollywood, the glitz, the glamour, the prestige, the respect, the paparazzi, the fashion, the hair, the makeup, the products. The diamonds, the designers, the dresses, the free swag, the red carpet, and everything that leads me to believe that being a movie star is everything it is cracked up to be and more.
Every year, I enjoy the media frenzy surrounding the Oscars and red carpet arrivals. I, like everyone else, judge the fashion, and the beauty. I compare and contrast to previous years and I pick up some beauty tips along the way.
At the Oscars, Best Dressed, Worst Dressed….
Below are my top picks for Best Dressed:
Gwyneth Paltrow: “This is My Jackie O moment,” Gwyneth stated to reporters on the red carpet. Gwyneth looked stunning in a white cape dress courtesy of Tom Ford. Complementing her dress was beautiful jewelry by Anna Hu.
Cameron Diaz: Cameron looked dream in cream wearing a white Gucci gown. I love Cameron in white attire. Even though I believe that she would look good in anything, white definitely makes her look angelic. I love Cameron’s red carpet looks. Her slim figure. Her strong physique. She is turning 40 this year. She has been a favorite of mine for such a long time
Angelina Jolie: Mr. and Mrs. Smith showed up looking stunning and very much in love. Angelina wore a black velvet Versace Gown with a high slit. I loved her look. Black is one of my favorite dress colors. Strapless is always a good choice. Her pose for the night became one of the evening’s biggest punch lines. She repeatedly put her hand on her hip with her right leg sticking out. Way to stand out, Angelina!
Penelope Cruz: Penelope Cruz is the gift that keeps on giving. I love Penelope Cruz and all of her glory! I think she sizzles on and off the screen. I loved Vicky, Christina Barcelona. Her movies are so good and exotic. She looked like a modern day princess in her exquisite Giorgio Armani custom organza gown. Penelope glowed in her Periwinkle gown featuring a fitted bodice, full skirt and a generous train. She accessorized with matching clutch and platinum and diamond jewelry by Chopard that included pear shaped necklace (56 karat), cluster earrings (15 carrot) and fancy shape line bracelet (43 karats)
Natalie Portman: Cute as always, Natalie was clad in a polka dot red vintage haute couture Christian Dior gown from 1954. Natalie Portman channeled a classic Grace Kelly on the red carpet. As a huge fan of Natalie Portman movies, I was very pleased with her attire. Dress, hair, makeup and everything else seemed to be in place.
Here are my top Picks for Worst Dressed at the Oscars:
While no actress was looking horrible, there were some actresses that missed the mark and could have done better when it came to designers and dress styles.
- Shailene Woodley in Valentino Couture
- Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli
- Judy Greer in Monique Lhuillier
- Maya Rudolph in Johanna Johnson
- Melissa Leo in Reem Acra
Oscar Highs:
Christopher Plummer’s acceptance speech for best supporting actor for beginners- Way to go Mr. VonTrapp! Christopher Plummer is the oldest person to win an Oscar at 82 years young
Billy Crystal returning to host the Oscars for the 9th time. –Angelina’s right leg…what a great stance. Only you could pull that off Angie! –Meryl Streep won her third Oscar. I love how she thanked her husband before anyone else. Such a class act.
Comedian Chris Rock acts out how easy it is to earn a million dollars for “acting” in an animated movie. Chris is such a great comedian.
Uggie, the dog from The Artist, appears onstage wearing a bowtie!
I love performances, so I enjoyed watching the Cirque du Soleil performance.
The Artist won for Best Picture. Old Hollywood was such an inspiration. It set the stage for all the glamour and glitz that followed throughout the generations.
Oscar Lows:
Woody Allen winning Best Screenplay for Midnight in Paris, however he didn’t show up to collect the award.
Sacha Baron Cohen dictator spills ashes on Ryan Seacrest.
All in all, the night was a fun night, whether, you enjoy the outfits, the show, or you want to see who gets the Oscar. There is always something for everyone on Oscar night.
xoxo

I loved Cameron Diaz too. She looked stunning! Agree with your entire list of well dressed here. Thanks for this!
